Five years of doing kingdom with friends out on the beaches!

Five years ago, around the time I started exploring different ways of expressing God’s love out in public, a friend and I went out on the beach in Oceanside California and for the first time set up this little prayer tent. With duct tape and clothesline cord we hung some nicely printed thick paper signs on it  that were very kindly made for us by what was then my church Grace Chapel of the Coast, now Grace Vineyard. I had no idea what I was doing, so I learned as I went.

We just had that small tent I’d picked up on sale at Walmart, some metal folding chairs I brought from home, each other, and the power of God’s love. It was more than enough. We started loving on and praying for people in a very laid-back way, and Holy Spirit began to move. I was shocked and elated that people would actually line up to experience the gospel.

We started on Fridays each week for a few months. I think by the beginning of the next summer we had cutback to about once a month, switched to Saturday’s, and I had purchased a slightly larger tent and some collapsible beach chairs from Walmart. The chairs were so cheap that within a few months I had to toss them and get some sturdier ones at CostCo. We experimented with different signage and had some professionally made to last. The pastors and people at Grace Chapel encouraged and supported us out in public so well & a small trickle of people made it from their God-encounter on the beach up to the church location several blocks inland. Because i was sharing our exploits on social media more people started coming out with us .

Shortly after that we did our first Activate Love workshop down in San Diego with a brilliant group of friends and we began to see and connect with others throughout our county that getting lit up with the Light Of The World. During the next several years we did these workshops all over San Diego county teaching Christians how to begin to activate the love that is already inside of them in Christ and share it with others in their daily lives.

During the years since then the beach outreaches have continued monthly for the most part; and different people partnering with us have come and gone as the seasons of their lives have changed. A few years back we begin to partner with some friends that wanted to bring out their own expression of the good news, so we added another prayer tent with different signage and a large popup for a drum circle & acoustical music. Next an artist friend or two began to join us so we added an art tent to engage people creatively. We’ve taken our set-up to different beaches in the San Diego area, sometimes partnering with churches nearby and sometimes just following Holy Spirit. More and more peeps have been coming out to be salt and light. We usually have 4-6 different churches/communities represented, and I can remember once when there were 12. More and more people have been encountering God in increasingly significant ways.

In the last five years we’ve seen hundreds and hundreds of people in the streets and on the beaches encounter the power of God’s love in many ways. Sometimes people are just overwhelmed and cry or shake of even fall over in the sand or on the sidewalk. We’ve seen scores of really radical physical healings out in public, and hundreds of less dramatic healings. Deliverances! Prophetic ministry! Conversions! Rededications! And many of the people who’ve come out to join us to love our communities have also been transformed. Come on Jesus!!

We’re still at it, and we’re still growing and changing. In the last six months we’ve seen a real increase in the number of people that are giving their lives to Christ. Almost every time we go out now we get to introduce somebody or several somebodies to their Father through Jesus. Recently another strategically thinking friend and I have begun to talk about how we might be able to follow up with these new Christians and help them grow up healthy in their new lives.

Breakfast interrupted by love…

Holy Spirit decided to interrupt our breakfast the other morning with a word of knowledge and encouragement for a young woman who was waiting for food that was so significant that she burst into tears and tight hugs of gratitude saying “Thank you so much!! You don’t even know!” over and over?

She was right, we didn’t know. But we knows Someone that does and that loves her so much that He interrupted our breakfast to make sure that she knows how close and real and good He is.

Self Realization Fellowship Meditation Gardens Invaded!

That time you go to the Self Realization Fellowship Meditation Gardens, and talk to Mormon missionaries about Jesus…Yup, that happened today! And like most people, they were pleasantly baffled when Holy Spirit began to target some personal stuff with God’s purpose and affirmation through some words of knowledge. COME ON HOLY SPIRIT!!

We had encounters with many people there in the garden, wide open to the good news we carry. One lady we spoke to just as we were leaving burst into tears and sobbed and wept as Holy Spirit targeted a very personal issue with Hope and Love and we prayed for her. She nodded eagerly as we explained how much Jesus loves her and wants to be part of her life. She thanked us repeatedly, hugged us, and then went in to exchange phone numbers with one of us for follow up.

And we found a wad of cash. On the ground. In the garden. Treasure just waiting there to be valued. Just like the people we met there.

People in these settings are so open to God and so hungry for truth. Any one of us can unpack the good news to them effectively, if we are willing to orient ourselves in Love, take the time, spend the energy, and step into risk. And He is with us as we go! Why wouldn’t we do this? Why wouldn’t we try? #activatelove #goodnewscarriers #overcomeevilwithgood#lightinthedarkness #besaltandlight #kingdomwithfriends

When you’re wrong you can still be right!

Yesterday I went to do some banking relating to the ministry trip I’ve been putting together to Germany the first part of next month. The counter was full so bank manager came and offered to help me at her desk. She was so nice! We casually chatted and I mentioned our upcoming trip. She seemed guardedly interested what we were doing asking a polite question or two, but was appropriately professional and we just finished our business.

As I turned to leave, as is my habit, I leaned into Love and asked Holy Spirit if He was doing anything with her or wanted to. I got a vague impression as I reached the door, so I paused and prayed a bit to see if anything would come together clearly. An idea or two seemed to kind of come together so I went back to her desk and said something like, “Excuse me, but as I had an impression about you, and it was so strong I thought I’d come back and share it with you if I can just have another minute or two of your time.”

She nodded and smiled. I shared what I had been sensing; and then gave her the message from God of hope that went with it, and asked her if the things I had said were meaningful to her or accurate.

Still smiling, she answered warmly saying something like, “Well yes, this happened, but that didn’t. But I sure like that hope part.” She went on nodding, “Actually, I have been getting closer to God lately. I think I’ll take that hope for myself!” I agreed that she should do so, blessed her, and left.

Translating God to the world is not an exact science; we don’t always get it right. But if we’re motivated by and expressing love, even when we’re not completely accurate God will still accomplish his purpose, AND we get the added benefit of a good dose of humility if we process the situation properly. So good! Jesus didn’t command us to give our neighbors impressive prophetic words, he commanded us to love our neighbor. And, if we learn to cultivate an awareness of the divine appointments all around us, all of life becomes an adventure. #activatelove #lovewins #risk #goforit#bringit #loveyourneighborasyourself #loveoneanother

Glory In The Streets!

We saw Isaiah 61 demonstrated Out In Public in the streets of Encinitas! There was good news for the poor, mending for the broken-hearted, healing for the bruised, freedom for captives, and release for prisoners of different kinds of stuff. We experienced the Lord’s favor, and saw vengeance taken on the enemy.

We had a non-stop string of encounters with people that included some eye-popping words of knowledge and encouragement and two cool physical healings. Check out each pic, they have their own captions.

This nanny told us about her “Channeler” who told her about her sickness. We demonstrated ours, Jesus, who took her symptoms away! Come on Jesus!!

We started with a nanny who was sick, and then told us about her “Channeler” who told her about her sickness. We demonstrated ours, Jesus, who took her symptoms away! Come on Jesus!!

This woman who could hardly walk got a nice slice of the gospel when her pain went from a “10′ to a “1” and she nearly skipped away commenting something like, “I should go dancing!” ??

One lady that could hardly walk told us her pain went from a “10” before we prayed to a “1” afterward. As she almost skipped off she commented “I’ll have to go dancing!.” Another woman with a brace on her wrist told us that ALL of her pain left, from a “10 to “0”. Jesus got all the credit, and they both got an upgrade in their understanding of who He is!

This lady, (screened from view) had a wrist brace on and was struggling to carry many bags of provisions to her vehicle. One of us helped her carry her bags, then along with Jesus we ganged up on her and saw hwr pain go form a “10” to a “0”. No pain at all! COME ON JESUS!

Then, a young man got specific encouragement into his situation and circumstances including details about his family and events in his recent past including getting unentangled from some stuff. Then Holy Spirit topped it all off with some words of hope into the very things he is trying to achieve. He said something like, “I can’t believe this!” as he blinked back tears behind his sunglasses. Come on Holy Spirit!

Some of us approached these men living on the streets and were politely rebuffed. But minutes later another bunch of us easily engaged them in a deep conversation that went on for some time. So good to do kingdom with friends!

Then we went and got some amazing tacos! And while we were there we got to prophesy and pray into God’s plan for the manager of the Taco Stand, who was wide open to the good news! He’s the third employee there that’s been clobbered by the power of God’s goodness in the last 4 weeks. So good!!! #activatelove #kingdomwithfriends #gospelmeansgoodnews #thenewsisgood #overcomeevilwithgood #normalchristianity #bringit #outinpublic

While a couple of us were out strolling around downtown Oceanside recently we met this precious woman:

She wept with joy!

She told us that she had several metal rods and screws in her leg and ankle and was in severe pain before we prayed. As we did she experienced first heat and then tingling in her ankle as Holy Spirit touched her. Then we got to watch her walk around weeping with joy with no pain at all as she flexed her ankle that couldn’t bend just minutes before. Already a believer in Jesus, she got a huge upgrade from her mental understanding into the experiential reality of His goodness. COME ON JESUS!!

“IS THIS A HOAX?!” the guy demanded to know after we showed him the description describing both his hat and his damaged neck that we had earlier written in our phone that Holy Spirit had given us. He was incredulous and initially skeptical. As we talked to him he opened up and showed us the scars on both sides of his throat where he told us he had been stabbed completely through his neck with a long screwdriver some years back. He told us that he had been initially paralyzed but that through hard work and a long hospitalization he had regained his mobility. He also told us that he was in constant pain. Of course Jesus took all of his pain away as we prayed for him, and touched him deeply. He had to run to catch a ride before we could walk to him much more but he left shaking his head at God’s goodness. COME ON JESUS!!

Holy Spirit was releasing hope and encouragement and truth like a broken fire hydrant. Everybody got a good soaking!

Then right after that we turned to find another guy sitting near us been watching us closely and with an open eager expression on his face, so we asked him if he wanted prayer too. He eagerly said “Yes” and took our offered hands. As we begin to pray for him he bowed his head and tears began to squirt out of his tightly shut eyes and run down his cheeks. Holy Spirit gave us some detailed targeted prayers and he was visibly shook as God touched him with His power. When we were done praying he thanked us profusely and told us that although he had once been close to God he had walked away and given up. We talked to him for while and then asked him if he wanted to surrender his life to Jesus again right then and there and he again eagerly agreed. So we led him in a very simple prayer of surrender, and weeping openly he prayed right out loud there in the bus depot and recommitted himself to Christ. Such a privilege!

This big bunch of peeps were wide open to the good news and hunger for God’s touch!

We went on to keep a couple more divine appointments before wrapping up for the day as a group. The fact that a couple of the “words” we tried out weren’t completely accurate did nothing to hinder God’s purpose. It mattered far more to us than to them. We are motivated by love and not afraid to take a risk, and the peeps we connect with knew that they had been loved by us and touched by God. PROPS TO JESUS!! #activatelove #ambassadorsofreconciliation #kingdomcome #bringit #colaboring #kingdomwithfriends

This is what it looks like to destroy darkness!!

Some time back we spent time with this young couple which resulted in prayer for her badly damaged wrist. The prayer resulted in a dramatic healing! She wept with joy and then received a huge download of Fathers love!
